The dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference documents listed here are either specific to northern, Arctic or Indigenous studies or contain significant content related to these fields. The documents provide access to review papers by specialists. Dictionaries of northern Indigenous languages are also listed here.

Some of the resources are freely available in full-text format, while others are restricted to members of the universities mentioned (restricted access), and are available under institutional licenses only. Reference works only available in print format are also listed.

Russian Arctic Seas: Navigational conditions and accidents

Bilingual (Russian–English) accounts of activities in the Russian Arctic seas that have resulted in accidents. Specifically, the physical environment and navigation issues in the Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, and Chukchi Seas. Half of the book is devoted to detailed descriptions of nearly 100 accidents caused by heavy ice conditions since 1900. The accidents are categorized according to type and cause, e.g., shipwrecks, forced drift (ice jets in one particular case), overwintering, and various types of vessel damage.

The Encyclopedia Arctica is the typescript of a proposed 20-volume reference work on the northern Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. The project was started in 1947 and was never published. Subjects covered include archaeology, anthropology, botany, engineering, geography, geology, history, law (including international relations), language, medicine, meteorology, oceanography, religion, zoology, and biographies.
